Is the sound also transmitted or is it only audible at the "sender"?

Displayport itself supports audio transmission. This has no influence on the cable.
The problem is rather whether the Displayport output (PC mainboard?) and the input (monitor/TV) also support audio. I would assume so for newer devices. I can't say more about this, I have never tried/used this.
However, if it is purely a matter of the cable, this is certainly not a problem.
