Hello Patric, I need the lens on a D810 for landscape and wildlife photography. I am very satisfied with the results of the shots and can recommend it without further ado. However, I have never used it indoors, such as at a concert, so I cannot make any recommendations in this respect.
Good evening Patric You have already received two well-founded answers to your very general question. As already mentioned, there are concerts from to. An open aperture of 2.8 for a room with rather less light is definitely not optimal. A good colleague of mine is always in front of the stage with 50, 85 or 105mm/1.4. Recently I photographed at a stacking competition in a gym with sufficient light. I had my Sigma 70-200 on a Nikon D780 and shot around 10 frames per second in live view mode. This fitted well with some great photos at the end of the day. If you are mistaken, there are already a few shops that lend out a wide variety of lenses. Otherwise, get some inspiration from youtube, there are some interesting articles there before you buy something that doesn't suit you afterwards.
Hello Patric, I don't think anyone can tell you exactly. It depends on whether you have a fast camera attached to the lens. It also depends on what kind of concert it is and where you are standing at the concert. Or to put it another way: With the D750 and D850 I felt it was a good lens for slow sports. For a fast football game, the autofocus from the lens was too slow for me. And if you're not standing directly in front of the stage at a big concert, but further back, then even the 200mm probably won't be enough for you. Depending on the stage and the concert, a 24-70mm would probably fit better if you were standing directly in front of the stage. But these are all guesses. I have never taken photos with this lens at a concert. For me, the lens is of good quality, quite heavy and not always the fastest when focusing. At open aperture it is also sometimes a bit soft/not quite sharp. I was able to buy the lens in 2015 for 1000. I thought that was a fair price.
The answer to your question is, as so often, it depends.
