Is it worth buying this lens or am I just as well off with the sigma 14-24mm? I have a nikon d850

I have the Nikkor on the D850 because I got it relatively cheap second-hand, it's worlds better than the Nikkor 16-35mm f4. Regarding the statement that third-party lenses are less sharp, you definitely cannot generalise!

The Nikkor is good but a bit outdated and reaches its resolution limits on the D850. The Tamron 15-30mm and Sigma 14-24mm are more modern designs and optically on a par.

At

the current new price of the Nikon, I would save the price difference and go for Sigma or Tamron depending on whether you need VR.

When I buy a high-quality camera body, I don't want to save on the lens. Of course, I don't want to generalise. But it is also a decision for the quality of the supplier. And I don't want to compromise on that. Hence the original.

This is definitely worthwhile - especially with a D850 due to the high resolution. The Nikon lenses are a lot sharper than those from third party manufacturers! I also use this in combination with a D850 and am very satisfied!
