Yes, it does. I find the appliance very powerful. It can even puree the chickpeas for the hummus as a paste nice and fine.
Of course, the prerequisite is that the vegetables are pureed with water or oil (any liquid) so that they can result in a fine paste.

It depends on how finely pureed you want the soup. It is not the same as in a blender.
