Is it possible to fold the touch display all the way back on this machine so that it is flush with the scanner glass, so that you can scan books well? How is the toner density for text printing (Word), rather thin or decent?

Yes, the display can be folded all the way back. The print quality of the machine is generally very good for this price range.
