If I plug my PC in as the master and plug the peripherals (screen, etc.) into the slave sockets, what happens when I put the PC into sleep mode ...does the master interpret this as OFF and switch off the slaves accordingly?

Depending on how much power your PC consumes in standby. The adjustable switching threshold can be set between approx. 8 and 80 W according to the description.
