Question about Roline DVI – HDMI (Typ A)

I tried to connect my laptop to an external monitor with the cable (HDMI plug on the laptop and DVI plug on the monitor), but unfortunately it didn't work. I tried it with a total of three laptops and two monitors. Does this cable only work in one direction?
