Never timed it, but I guess it takes us 20' (for 1 to 1.5 cups of rice). Maybe a little more, but not 50'.

As long as you don't use too much water, the rice will cook perfectly in 20-30 minutes. I just recommend that you stir it a little now and then, otherwise the rice will burn a little. I have never waited 50 minutes, so I can only recommend the rice cooker (price-performance ratio).
