Question about Delock HDMI Audio Extractor

I have now also ordered such an adapter to connect my technology for the hard of hearing via stereo. The source is a Chromecast. But when I plug in just my audio cable, I don't get any sound. What am I doing wrong?

I tried it again today with the 20cm HDMI cable from Digitech. And now, strangely enough, it works. Was it the HDMI cable to the TV?
