I bought an ASUS MB169C monitor from them. After connecting it to my laptop HP ProBook, the monitor cannot be switched on (lamp does not light up). The connection is via a USB-A to USB-C cable (USB port with power symbol). Do I need to connect via Displayport to USB-C? Which cable would be necessary?
Firstly, the cable itself: Works perfectly from a NUC7 to an EIZO with DP, for example. By the way, the LiveChat support from StarTech is also top. Then to point 2: If you connect USB-A to USB-C ... nothing will work there except perhaps a hub integrated in the monitor - the exception is a power adapter at the socket, then the LED may light up. So we come to #3: In order for the monitor to get enough juice directly from the notebook, it must be connected via USB-C with PD (PowerDelivery). And since you certainly want to see a picture, the USB-C port integrated in the notebook must support DisplayPort => Alternate Mode. As I said, the NUC7 does this, as do the new MacBooks and other modern devices à la X1 Carbon 2017.
In short: If your HP ProBook does not have USB-C/PD/ALT mode, you will probably have to struggle with converters and I don't know what. Otherwise, simply connect the USB-C cable included with the monitor to the monitor and the notebook - done.
So I connected my Apple MacBook Pro (item no. 6348298) and my HP ZR30w with this cable. It works perfectly at 2560x1600 px on both screens.
