According to the test report, sequential read is 485 MB/s, sequential write 306 MB/s (presumably via USB 3.1, source: http://www.allround-pc.com/artikel/ssds/2017/test-wd-my-passport-ssd-512-gb). USB 3.0 should be lower. In principle, applications / games can also be installed on external hard drives.
