How do I charge the small AAA batteries? They are too small and fall out. The unit has room for 4 large AA batteries.

The small AAA batteries do not fit in the charger at all. They are much too small. In the picture you can see the two small AAA on the right, and below them the contact. The device I bought and now have in front of me has 4 identical charging options, but only for the large AA batteries. Should I now bend the lower metal contacts of 2 of the 4 charging points by hand (bend them upwards) so that the 2 small AAA batteries don't fall out and hopefully get charged (correctly)?

I've just tried it and I don't quite understand why you can't do it. Doesn't it have a smaller indentation behind it into which you can press the smaller AAA batteries? Maybe first press in the minus at the bottom and then the plus at the top. Good luck!
