Hello I have an iMac 27" - mid 2011 with Thunderbolt port that I want to use as an external monitor for my HP envy with AMD Ryzen processor. Does anyone use this cable for this purpose? Any experience with it or similar connections? Does anyone have another solution? Merci!!!
The iMac monitors (2010 and older) also accepted a DP signal at their Thunderbolt 1 connection.
This is no longer possible with all newer ones, only real Thunderbolt works.
As far as I know, there are no USB-C to Thunderbolt adapters; a USB-C port is always required that is also capable of Thunderbolt (recognisable by the lightning symbol next to the port). There are new Windows notebooks that can do this.
For PCs, there are plug-in cards for retrofitting a Thunderbolt connection.
Not possible for several reasons. HDMI already cannot output DisplayPort. (DisplayPort but HDMI).
You can only use the iMac (2011-2013) as a display with a Thunderbolt 1/2 cable on a Thunderbolt-compatible computer. With a Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter (from Apple) also on a modern computer with Thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt was Intel exclusive until recently. Your device probably does not have Thunderbolt.
