Is it possible, or would it be possible, to access the 530 from a mobile phone with an appropriate cable in order to load data. Or is that really only possible via a PC?

Answer

It depends on what kind of data you mean.
If you have various apps on your mobile phone, e.g. Garmin Connect or Komoot, then you can do a lot via Bluetooth. The same as with the PC. I haven't tried it with a cable yet.
