Can I use the cable for the following constellation? Docking station DVI output -> monitor Displayport input

Unfortunately, this does not usually work. DP output to DVI input works, but not vice versa. This requires an "active converter/adapter" from DVI to DP, but even this does not work with every screen without exception.
