Can I plug this stick into the mobile phone and view the contents of the stick on the mobile phone? Or do I have to copy the content to the memory of the mobile phone itself first?

Yes, it depends on the phone, but yes, you can certainly plug in the USB Type C on the smartphone and view/play the files.
