I have a MacBook Pro 2017 and this worked perfectly. As far as I know, the 2016 and 2017 models are the same. Therefore no problem.

From my Samsung Note-8 to a beamer, the cable works perfectly. If the Mac and Touchbar have the corresponding plugs, maybe also. However, it depends on how many brakes Apple has built in.
