Are the games then directly on the Switch or do you have to buy them separately?

Most (possibly all?) games are also downloadable, if that's what was meant....
However, with 32GB of internal memory, this is not recommended. The memory can be expanded with micro-SD cards (theoretically up to 2TB when these cards appear).
