According to the specification, it has a headphone output. Is it possible to connect an active external loudspeaker with a mini-jack? Will the radio then continue to play on the speakers or will they be muted?

No, the Pure Evoke PLay does not have a headphone output. There is also no aux-in for external audio sources, meaning that the device can only be used via the built-in speakers or wirelessly via Bluetooth.
