According to the product description (HP homepage and data sheet) the HP 913 A ink cartridges are compatible. Can the HP 973X also be used? The device seems to be identical in construction to the HP477dw. And you can use the HP973X there.

NO, with 377 you only buy the licence to use the small 913A cartridges. The printer software rejects the 973X.

No. Unfortunately, HP actively prevents you from using the large ink cartridges in the low-cost models (e.g. the 377dw). If you want to use the larger cartridges, you have to buy the 477dw model.
