Microsoft - Surface Dock (Mini DisplayPort, 95W, USB Type A)
The advantages of a notebook are undisputed - however, one often needs a fixed place with larger screens for certain work and entertainment purposes. A docking station is the perfect way to enjoy the benefits of a PC without ever having to buy one.
Advantages of a docking station
* You are flexible on the road with your notebook and have an entire workstation at fixed locations with a docking station and do not have to work directly on the small notebook. You only have to plug in a cable or press the notebook into the dock.
* One extends the possibilities of screens or also of connections (e.g. network connections).
* As notebooks become slimmer and lighter, the connections are disappearing more and more. With a dock, you have all the connections you need without sacrificing form factor and mobility.
Types of docking stations
The all-rounders among the docking stations: They are compatible with most devices, so you are not restricted to one device.
Device specific docks
In business environments it is often a preference that docking stations are basically designed for one device or series of devices. Certain functions are only accessible for specific devices, but the main functions are useful for any device with an appropriate connection.
These are the classics among the docks: they are used exclusively for devices with the same connection, whereby the notebook is usually plugged in.
As the name suggests, these docking stations are optimized for travel. They do not require connection to a power source, which makes them very handy and mobile. There are limitations in terms of power and connections.
When it comes to third-party hardware, Apple always has special requirements. These docking stations are Apple compliant.
