Recommendation: After purchase, keep the package and stress test the first plate.
Great, received it yesterday, started the backup in the evening (everything ran wonderfully) and this morning the thing is broken, i.e. the hard disk still made a kind of grazing noise when plugged in.
Instead of claiming warranty, I took the unit apart. The construction is still classic, i.e. SATA interface + separate, separable controller. Apparently, it wasn't the controller that was the problem. The grazing noise also reappeared in the SATA dock.
I don't want to discourage anyone from buying it, I just recommend that you keep the package after buying it and that you first test the drive and do a complete disk test.

Exactly the same thing happened to me... so it doesn't seem to be an isolated case (I still thought I'd got a piece of equipment that didn't work...).
