Product details
With this Ethernet Extension, Bricks and Bricklets can be integrated into a LAN. It supports 10BaseT/100BaseTX Ethernet and is compatible with 1000BaseTX. The extension is available in two variants: the PoE variant features an integrated PoE power supply that allows powering connected modules according to the industrial standard IEEE 802.3af, enabling power supply through both PoE injectors and PoE-capable switches. Additionally, a second variant without PoE is available. Since the extension can handle the TCP/IP packets generated by the API, it is possible to control it directly from a smartphone, tablet, or (embedded) PC. The Brick Daemon is no longer necessary. The Ethernet Extension can be used together with a Master Brick or a RED Brick. If other Bricks need to be controlled, a stack of these can be built and connected to the Master Brick or RED Brick. When using Bricklets, they can be easily connected to any Brick in the stack (except for the RED Brick). From a programmer's perspective, using an Ethernet Extension is completely transparent, meaning all Bricks and Bricklets can be used as if they were directly connected via USB to the controlling device. The Master Brick used must have a firmware version of 2.1.0 or newer to utilize this extension.
The Ethernet Extension can be configured in two modes: DHCP or static IP. Only in static IP mode should the IP, Subnet Mask, and Gateway be entered. The MAC address of the Ethernet Extension is not fixed and is assigned. If it is lost for any reason, it can be found on the sticker on the Ethernet Extension. After completing the configuration, the "Save Ethernet Configuration" button should be clicked, and the Master Brick should be restarted.
