EISA Award for "Best Product" Winner 2024-2025 - The 70-180mm f/2.8 G2 is an evolution of the first generation of the highly acclaimed 70-180mm zoom lens, which has garnered much attention since its launch and has now been improved in several ways. The most significant innovation is the integration of the VC image stabilizer developed by Tamron. Despite this new feature, which allows for sharper images even at longer shutter speeds, the 70-180mm f/2.8 G2 remains the most compact and lightweight lens in its class.

The revised optical design of the 70-180mm f/2.8 G2 achieves uncompromisingly high image quality across the entire focal length range. At 70 mm, the shortest focusing distance is just 0.3 m, which is an improvement of 0.55 m and significantly expands the creative possibilities of this fast telephoto zoom lens. The new model is equipped with Tamron's proven VXD autofocus (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) with a linear motor, which focuses quickly and precisely on the subject for both photo and video. The lens is compatible with the Tamron Lens Utility and the Tamron Lens Utility Mobile App. Both applications have been developed by Tamron and allow for custom configuration of the lens to optimize its performance for specific shooting situations. The new lens design impresses with its user-friendly operation and scratch-resistant surface.

Bayonet lens mount

A lens mount is an interface — mechanical and often also electrical — between a photographic camera body and a lens. It is confined to cameras where the body allows interchangeable lenses, most usually the single lens reflex type or any movie camera of 16 mm or higher gauge. Lens mounts are also used to connect optical components in instrumentation that may not involve a camera, such as the modular components used in optical laboratory prototyping which join via C-mount or T-mount elements.
