This is a board designed for opto-isolated connections. This board is useful for connecting digital systems, such as a 5V microcontroller, to a high-voltage or noise-affected system. It electrically isolates a controller from the high-power system by using an opto-isolator IC. This IC features two integrated LEDs and two photodiodes, allowing the low-voltage side to control the high-voltage side. We frequently use this board to enable a microcontroller to control servos or other motors that require a higher voltage than the TTL logic of the 3.3V or 5V micros, which can cause electromagnetic interference in our system when the motors are turned on and off. This board isolates the systems and creates a sort of electrical noise barrier between the devices. This breakout board uses the ILD213T opto-isolator and discrete transistors to correct the logic. It has two channels and is excellent for use in noisy circuits where signal lines require electrical isolation. A standard LED opto-isolator inverts the logic of a signal. We have added some transistors to this compact board to correct the inversion. What you apply to the IN pins will be replicated at the OUT pins, but at the higher voltage.
