Although Sony installed an annoyingly long update to the WF-1000XM5 during our test, the app did not learn how to search for Auracast streams. If you activate LE Audio there, you still need an Auracast-enabled smartphone. In combination with the Samsung S24 Ultra, it worked without any problems...
Thanks to their great sound and very effective noise cancelling, the Sony play in the top league. The operation on the earplugs and via the app is also great. Thanks to the foam tips, the WF-1000XM5 not only seal really well, but also adapt to the ear canal.
The WF-1000XM5 play in the top league. This is thanks to their effective noise-cancelling and detailed sound. LE Audio offers no advantages, but longer battery life. However, Sony restricts LE Audio to Xperia smartphones and there is still no sign of Auracast.
Sony takes a special approach to surround sound: the customisation via ear photos does not work with Dolby Atmos, but only with tracks in the rare 360 reality audio format. Otherwise, the WF-1000 XM5 are really good in-ears with a beautifully clear sound. The clever noise cancellation and wearing comfort are also pleasing.
With top wearing comfort, very good noise cancelling, a powerful app including a strong equaliser, the Sony WF-1000XM5 impresses across the board.
