The design of the new lens incorporates two AA (Advanced Aspherical) elements and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements to effectively suppress chromatic aberrations and ensure high image quality across the entire image range, even at the maximum aperture of F1.8. The lens offers outstanding close-up performance with a minimum focusing distance of 0.19 metres (maximum magnification: 0.2x) and delivers impressive bokeh. The compact design and versatile application possibilities of the new SEL-20F18G make it the perfect all-round lens for photographers and videographers. Thanks to its small size and low weight of just 373 grams, it is ideal for mobile use, especially in combination with a compact E-mount camera from Sony and the use of gimbals or accessory grips. In addition, the two XD (extremely dynamic) linear motors ensure fast, precise and quiet focussing for both photo and video recordings. The FE 20 millimetre F1.8 G lens is dust and moisture resistant and has a fluorine coating on the front element. It is equipped with an individually adjustable focus hold button and an aperture ring with on/off switch. It is also compatible with a wide range of 67 millimetre filters, which open up even more creative possibilities.

For a fast super wide-angle lens, 1100 euros is fine - if the performance is right. The FE 1.8/20 mm impresses at aperture 1.8 in the centre of the frame with top values for resolution and contrast. The edge fall-off is noticeable, but ok because of the high performance in the centre of the image...
The Sony FE 1.8/20 mm G offers very high resolutions after two stops down.
Sony's entry into very short focal lengths for the Alpha full format succeeds with only a slightly restrained bang. The excellent lens delivers first-class images and is also a winner in terms of its features and additional functionality (AF, disengageable aperture click stops).
