Insgesamt bietet das Sony eine eher kontrastarme Vorstellung und bei Offenblende ist das Ergebnis ebenfalls mäßig. Gemessen am Preis ist aber das Ganze abgeblendet sehr solide, sodass hier eine Empfehlung ausgesprochen wird.
Mechanisch kann das Objektiv absolut überzeugen und auch der Autofokus-Motor zeigt sich besonders stark. Leider zeigen sich jedoch bei der Anfangsöffnung 1:1,8 deutliche Schwächen, sodass eine noch bessere Gesamtbewertung verpasst wird.
Mit diesem Objektiv ergänzen Nex-Kamera-Besitzer ihr System sinnvoll um ein gelungenes kurzes Teleobjektiv. Hiermit lassen sich vor allem Portraits oder auch Schnappschüsse in hoher Qualität abbilden, wobei gerade die Bildmitte hervorragende Ergebnisse bietet.
Die Leistungen des SEL50F18 E50 mm F1,8 von Sony übertreffen eindeutig die Werte des Standard-Zoomobjektivs SEL1855 E18-55 mm F3,5-5,6. Die deutlich höhere Lichtstärke dürfte viele Besitzer einer NEX-Kamera zum Kauf bewegen. Kleinere Qualitätseinbußen, die nur unter Testbedingungen auffallen, werden von den elektronischen Hilfen der Kamera kompensiert und führen im alltäglichen Gebrauch zu tadellosen Bildern.
