Despite minor weaknesses in the optics, the Sigma 1.4/85 mm DG DN Art achieves a "Super" seal of approval.
The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens for Nikon F is a highly advanced standard lens specifically designed for portrait photography and creative applications. With a maximum aperture of f/1.4, it offers excellent light sensitivity, producing impressive background blur (bokeh) while providing ultra-high resolution. The lens consists of 14 lens elements arranged in 12 groups to ensure optimal image quality. The internal focusing system allows for fast and precise focusing, while the robust construction makes the lens dust- and splash-resistant, making it ideal for use in various conditions. This lens is compatible with both full-frame and APS-C sensors, offering photographers the flexibility they need to realize their creative visions.

Despite minor weaknesses in the optics, the Sigma 1.4/85 mm DG DN Art achieves a "Super" seal of approval.
On both Panasonic and Sony, the standard focal length shows an unusually even image quality at all three measured apertures at the highest level. In the centre, the resolution increases from good to very good values as the aperture is stopped down. The contrast in the centre of the image behaves similarly...
Sigma has recalculated the fast 85 for the Sony A7 cameras and almost halved the weight to 625 grams. At open aperture, the resolution is good, but a few hundred line pairs away from the best. The contrast reaches top values, the edge drop remains low. Stopping down brings a good 100 LP, the contrast increases further, at the same time the edge drop drops further...

The Sigma lens achieves very high performance and delivers beautiful images with excellent resolution in the focus area and a natural-looking bokeh representation in the subject background. Coupled with high build quality, light weight and a fair price, it is worth a real recommendation.
