Shure Beta 91A

The Beta 91A is a boundary microphone designed for capturing bass drums and other low-frequency instruments, as well as for piano pickup. The condenser capsule and the built-in preamplifier provide excellent response with powerful and accurate low bass. A switch allows for frequency response adjustment to avoid muddiness.

The Beta 91A combines the sound characteristics of the legendary SM91 microphone, which was primarily used for piano and grand piano recording, with the rich punch of the Beta 91, which is popular for bass drums and other low-frequency instruments. This successful combination results in a half-cardioid microphone with low self-noise that can easily handle extremely high sound pressure levels. A switchable filter attenuates the lower mids to prevent bass drum boom.
