The active cable does not require a separate power supply and is particularly well-suited for installation in cable ducts due to its small diameter. It is a hardware solution, with no software necessary. The connectors have built-in optical transceivers. No external power supply is needed; the cable contains a copper fiber for power supply. The connectors and cable have small dimensions; the cable has a smaller diameter than comparable pure copper cables due to the fiber optics.
