Zinc-air hearing aid batteries have a particularly high energy density and provide an almost flat discharge curve. They are the optimal power source, especially for hearing aids.
The battery's air holes are initially covered with a protective film to keep them in a "standby" state until needed. The inherent self-discharge of zinc-air batteries with the protective film in place is only about 3% per year. The film is removed when the battery is inserted into the hearing aid. After a few seconds of activation time, the battery begins to supply power. In the activated state (protective film removed), zinc-air batteries have a limited shelf life and should be used as soon as possible.
