the display is self-luminous. this means that it stores energy through the incidence of light, as is the case with wristwatch hands, which then shimmer green in the dark. unfortunately, the storage is not sufficient with this display. when i go to bed, the display is practically black and nothing can be read. i have the alarm clock next to the window with the display facing the window so that it can catch as much light as possible. if you go to bed too late (or if it's not light outside for long, like in winter), you won't see anything at all on the alarm clock's display when the room light is switched off, because all the stored energy has already been used up.
i would not recommend this alarm clock to anyone who wants to set it or read the time without room light. unfortunately, i have already thrown away my original packaging (beginner's mistake :/).
other reviews have already complained about the same thing. but i thought they were exaggerating. now i've run into it myself because i ignored these warnings. don't be like me. don't ignore my warning and if you do, keep the box on a little longer than i did.
must now get myself a new, different alarm clock with active illuminated displayPro
