The package says excellent bass and voice reproduction. I can only agree with that. Bass guitar and voices are indeed emphasised. If you are looking for an airy sound with a wide stage, it is better to go for the HD 598 or even the HD 600. Alternatively, you can use an equaliser. To do this, raise the frequencies between 800Hz and 2kHz a little and lower those between 120Hz and 220Hz slightly. In the low bass, the HD 558 is too weak for me.
The wearing comfort is excellent. I sometimes forget that I'm wearing them. The velour pads are much better than the artificial leather that Sennheiser uses on cheaper products. However, the pads do give in over time.
The cable is excellent and detachable. The plug ends at 1/4 inch. An adapter to 1/8 inch is included, but it plugs directly into the 1/4 inch plug. This makes it very long and susceptible to damage.

These headphones are the best headphones in terms of sound....
These headphones are the best sounding headphones I have heard so far. The only shortcoming in my opinion is the lack of "pressure" in the headphones - bass comes across, also very good sounding, but just too little in my opinion. The sound is breathtaking, very clear and audible.
I had bought the Sennheiser HD 439 (second pair of headphones), which I like much more than the 558 - the sound and wearing comfort of the 439 are in no way comparable to the 558. When you are immersed in the music / film, you even forget that you have headphones on. I can unreservedly recommend the HD 558 (except to bass lovers)!

Good clear sound Ideal for AV receiver and watching movies. Thanks to cable bound better quality of sound (had comparison with wireless for testing).
