Top device - Review of an old radio-TV electrician bunny

    - Unit runs on AA batteries or AA rechargeable batteries (recommendation: Eneloops 1900mAh).
    - AA batteries can be charged in the unit (micro-USB connection, incl. charge indicator)
    - Power consumption on volume 20 (out of
30): DAB+: ~120mA, FM: ~150mA (why FM needs more is unclear, but is the same with a second unit). I.e. with 1900mAh Eneloop the unit runs approx.12-14h (and that with only 2x AA batteries, others have 4 or 6).
    - Quiescent current in standby: 0.5mA (not little, but that means 2 Eneloops last about 2 months if you let the radio wake you up for 5-10 minutes every day.
    - Top reception on DAB+ and FM
    - 15 station memory
    - Very easy to read LCD display (even in the sun)
    - Very fast search on DAB+ (in the Zurich Oberland you can even receive various German stations, such as SWR, DLF, Seefunk, etc...)
    - 2 independent alarm functions (daily, weekend only, weekdays only) with DAB+, FM, or buzzer, also on battery/rechargeable battery operation!!!! (no other device I know of offers this, they always need a mains adapter for the alarm function to work).
    - Both alarm functions can be easily switched on and off by accessing DeepL.
    - Snooze function adjustable, 5, 10 or 15 minutes
    - Sleep function up to 90 minutes (in 10 minute steps)
    - Good sound quality for the size (not to be compared with the 80s horns)
    - 3.5mm jack stereo headphone output with very good sound quality
    - very small and therefore really portable (footprint smaller than a modern smartphone)
    - definitely offers more than Sony XDR-S41 or XDR-P1DBP, qualitatively at least on the same level (housing, design, operation)!

Unfortunately, today there are rarely devices as well thought-out, well-designed and trimmed for durability as the Sangean DPR-64. e.g. glued batteries are junk, a battery is and remains a wearing part, even if people say I want a device with a battery. Yes, but the battery must be removable.

Only at Digitec is the device definitely (much) too expensive...

Clear purchase recommendation for a high-quality radio with many useful functions

As with the other reviews, this is a very good radio for me.

As I am already very satisfied with the Sangean Dpr 39 for my old car, I bought this radio for my home. It looks smart and has a high-quality finish.
    The aerial
is 62 cm long and the support at the back is very sturdy and not just made of plastic. You can also see the metal.
The sound is good for its size and even very good through better headphones or the speakers of the stereo system.
I mainly use it as a tuner replacement for Dab+ with my Marantz hi-fi system from the 90s with power via the USB cable and it works perfectly.
Thanks to its size and light weight, you can easily carry it anywhere and listen to the radio in other places, recharge batteries or use it as a clock radio.
There are 15 Dab+ memories for quick access.
The company Sangean, which apparently specialises in radios, already produces very good devices.

Great as a clock radio with battery operation

I bought this radio as a clock radio because it is the only DAB+ radio with an alarm function that runs on batteries. It offers lots of ingenious functions that should be standard on every alarm clock (but unfortunately aren't).

    Pro

    • runs on batteries (or rechargeable batteries)
    • 2 different alarm times programmable for weekdays and weekends
    • Programmable alarm clock volume and transmitter
    • The volume of the alarm clock is slowly increased so that you are not abruptly woken from sleep
    • Display remains dark and is only illuminated for 10 seconds at the touch of a button

Great "emergency radio" - can also be used in everyday life

I was very positively surprised that the device I bought as an emergency radio can also be used well in everyday life.

    • Only 2 AA batteries or rechargeable batteries
    • Charges batteries in the unit
    • Good sound for the microscopic size
    • intuitive operation
    • good reception
    • portable

    Contra

    • Alarm functions hidden deep in the menu - rather unsuitable as an alarm clock
