    It was worth a try...

The idea, range of functions and workmanship are convincing. Unfortunately, the technology is not up to scratch. The connection to the WLAN router is over after a short distance and one/two walls. The Ring Chime Pro WLAN repeater, which is available separately, may help here - but it costs an extra CHF 65! While the image and sound transmission on iOS devices works without any problems, the sound transmission on the Huawei Mate 10 Lite did not work. In general, it takes too long from triggering the bell to establishing the connection on the mobile or tablet - probably also has to do with the WLAN quality. The image and sound recordings when the bell is triggered or when motion detection mode is activated are stored on a server for which a fee is charged - the first 30 days are free, then the service costs USD 3 per month or USD 30 per year - an absolute no-go for me! Due to these complaints, Digitec has taken the product back without any ifs and buts, thank you! I think I'm going to look in the direction of Netatmo.

    I am happy!

I rate the Ring Doorbell V2 with 5 stars. Here's why... First of all: You should have acceptable internet speed so that everything runs smoothly. According to the manufacturer, 1Mbit/s upload and 2Mbit/s download are sufficient, but the faster the better. You don't need almost any tools for installation, because EVERYTHING is included in the box: 2 different faceplates, screwdriver, dowels & screws, even a matching drill and a small spirit level for alignment. By the way: Because the screws on the V2 are set differently than on the V1, there is even an adapter plate included so that you don't have to drill again when you upgrade from V1 to V2. Once the bell is installed, insert the battery and go (you may have to charge it first). The integration into the WLAN network is done in a few steps, there is not much to say about it. I only noticed that some parts of the app are not yet 100% German, but I assume that will change soon. Then it starts: live stream, setting the motion detectors, first notifications to the mobile phone - everything runs reliably and smoothly! After recording, the videos are available in the app and can also be downloaded. This online storage is free of charge for 30 days, after which you can take out a subscription for 3 francs a month. There is no minimum term, so you can cancel at any time. With a subscription, the videos remain stored for 60 days. I am now also the proud owner of a Floodlight Cam (installed on the terrace). I also got the Chime so that we can hear a door chime in the house, not just on the mobile phone. Conclusion: 5 stars from me for a product that finally makes sense again and that really makes my home smarter!
