After buying and trying out this headset I felt obliged to point out an important point which seems not to be covered in the reviews here: most likely you will have to use an equaliser with this product.
Razer advertise Kraken having "custom-tuned 50mm drivers". I have no idea what exactly they have been tuning them to, but out of the box this headset has a VERY hollow sound (compared to Sennheiser, Plantronics, Jabra and Turtle Beach devices I have at hand -- these all sound a bit different, but in games there is no life-changing experience, with Kraken on the other hand? oof!).
The problem is that without additional tuning you simply DO NOT hear at all certain types of sounds in some games (tested on Overwatch, Valorant, WoW, DotA2), they just disappear. Razer have some applications available to download, I checked out their "7.1 Surround Sound" and "Synapse 3" software in hopes they offer equaliser options, but no, it is not there (some Razer forum posts claim EQ is only available for other, more expensive Kraken models, oof! also I have not tried the older "Synapse 2" legacy software).
My motherboard uses a Realtek sound chip, so I used the equaliser in Realtek's "HD Sound Manager" application. After playing with it I finally found the configuration which makes Kraken sound reasonable and the "missing" sound effects in games can be heard once again, but this feeling of an unpleasant surprise still lingers... x)…more
