  Weak HW design (cooling)

  This does not refer to this exact model, but the cooling architecture is the same for all of them.
  If these RAID HBAs from Avago/LSI are not really well actively cooled, they overheat and due to the lack of temperature control of the chip (9266-8i) a complete loss of data can occur. Sufficient passive cooling can be expected in this segment.
  This happened to me, and since then, after a long phase of fascination, a clear rejection of hardware RAID has emerged. The most I can recommend is RAID-Z via ZFS and this with good hardware and definitely enough RAM (ECC!!). more
