A super 'all in one' Fuji zoom, but only for larger cameras like X-Pro or X-T's.

The XF 16-55 has been on the market for some time now and for me buying the lens has not been an issue so far, just because of the size and weight.
I have some excellent fixed focal length lenses like the XF-14mm, XF-16mm
or XF-23mm, but also the XF-18-55mm has always been with me as an excellent zoom.
But carrying or changing all the lenses in places that may not be ideal is not without its problems, and at some point the sensor gets dirty.....
After studying many reviews and opinions again, I bought an XF 16-55.

Conclusion: (Assessment of a hobby & mostly landscape photographer)

The XF 16-55 is an excellent zoom lens that compares favourably in terms of performance with some top-class prime lenses.
I was surprised that the relatively heavy and large lens, together with my X-Pro2, felt quite good as a whole. Absolutely no problem if you don't plan on hiking for hours with the camera around you.
But that's what I have my photo backpack for.

With the very positive experiences I've had so far, the XF 16-55 will probably remain on my camera as the default standard lens and changes are now the exception rather than the rule. Interchangeable lenses largely stay at home or come on the market.

The standard lens hood is clunky and a pain to mount and dismount. I have successfully replaced it with a 'JJC LN-77W' hood. Clean screw connection, works tiptop, no vignetting at open apertures despite filter.

The characteristics criticised at a high level in some reviews, such as too much distortion at f/16, etc., can only be found in professional examinations with raster system images and brick walls, etc. In my applications this is not the case at all. This is not even noticeable in my applications.

I can live with the lack of OIS.
I am really thrilled and can only recommend this weighty jewel of a Fuji lens.

    Pro

    • Qualitatively outstanding, very complex and beautifully built lens
    • Excellent optical characteristics, very high image quality, extremely sharp
    • Weather & dust resistant
    • Convincing click-stop system for the aperture ring (no accidental adjustment)
    • Open zoom is only approx. 5cm longer than when closed
    • Fast and quiet autofocus

    Contra

    • Lens hood (I replaced it with a wide-angle hood 'JJC LN-77W)
    • Weight (665gr)
    • Rather unsuitable for smaller and lighter cameras such as X-E3 etc. for weight reasons
    • Lack of optical stabilisation (OIS)

The must-have today for a Fufi camera.

The monster of the XF lenses. It is clearly heavy, so you may not want to bring it with you in a several hours walk or to visit a city. The image quality is very high, except at 16mm, where the distortion is too high.

    Pro

    • Image quality, specially at 55mm
    • Very solid case
    • Zoom, focus and aperture rings quality

    Contra

    • No stabilization! That is a big downer
    • 16mm produces too much distortion
    • Heavy, does not balance well with a X-T1 when walking
