The cipher cable for Apple devices is very good and converts FLAC files into superb sound via the Onkyo app. At higher levels, however, there doesn't seem to be enough current flowing to the headphones; the sound then seemssomewhat strained and low bass no longer comes as precisely. I also have an IFI i-DSD headphone amplifier that sends the necessary impulses to the headphones and is also a class above the Cipher cable in terms of sound quality. I would say that the combination harmonises perfectly. The cipher cable, however, has mobility as a clear plus. The Apple app with the Equilizer is only capable of moderate changes to the sound. Updates of the cipher cable's firmware are also possible via the app, software version 0.36. But there is still room for changes. The microphone is integrated in the cipher cable. I also have an Audeze LCD-2 for home use, which sounds a bit airier with a slightly more open stage. The LCD-2 is a little better but the EL-8 is very close and I am very enthusiastic about both. I ordered a bag for the EL-8 directly from Audeze. It was delivered to Switzerland a week later directly from California for 39 dollars plus 5 dollars shipping. I would buy the EL-8 ti again.
