According to the manufacturer, this item is 5G compatible. You can find more detailed information here: https://www.zyxel.com/de/de/products_services/5G-New-Radio-Outdoor-Router-NR7101/benefits
Wi-Fi is only for managing the router, not for providing internet to other devices. The second question is unclear or you don't understand the point. Greetings
Correct! The WLAN signal provided by the router is only intended for configuring the router and does not provide Internet access.
In principle, you can use a router of your choice here. I personally use a firewall from Netgate.
My electrician pulled the RJ45 through an existing electrical wire. If you have an external light or socket outside, you may be able to pull it through in the same way.
With an additional router: Enter the following in Google search: "How to set NR7101 to bridge mode (cellular IP passthrough)" -> there are instructions there on how to do this.
For a switch: ("Hubs" don't really exist anymore, only "Switches" (they are more intelligent)) -> check DHCP incl. DNS settings. Bridge mode must not be active here!
The wireless connection is only intended for setting purposes of the router! Unfortunately, it is not possible to access the Internet via this connection.
Strange, I don't experience similar problems. The router has been stable for me since installation, so no failures for a month. Stable and fast 550 Mbit down, 160 Mbit up.
I am very satisfied. Maybe your device is defective. There is a good support in CH. Search for: zyxel support switzerland
I found the following information on pages 69 and 70 of the operating instructions:
https://www.studerus.ch/de/support/download/60602_1
According to this information, it should be possible to select a specific carrier for the 5G band, as well as whether the router should automatically switch to a better signal or even LTE.
Hello, the only purpose of the wifi of this router is to configure it, it can’t be used to access internet. If you need wifi, you will need to add a wifi router in your network
According to the data gathered, the product is not suitable for an endpoint VPn, so NordVPN or similar solutions cannot be used directly on it, but it has VPN passthrough so another device behind it in the network topology can be used for this purpose and can be used as a modem.
The 802.3af/at standard PoE (Power over Ethernet) injector is included in the delivery.
The best thing to do is to contact our customer service directly at https://helpcenter.digitec.ch/hc/de/requests/new. Your request can then be examined individually.
Marketing: "The NR7101 has data rates of up to 5Gbps, which can give your business an edge..."
So gross...this thing can do up to 5Gbit! I wonder how they push that through the 1GBit LAN port...maybe there's an undocumented performance boost from the PoE adapter? :D (PoE=Power without end)
Of course you only get the 5GBit if you strap the thing onto the transmission mast, but that's still bullshit to me!
The thing can do 1GBit and that's it. And you can already get 5G routers on the 2nd market for half the speed.
I haven't quite understood the idea of the device yet, do you connect this device to your existing network and then have 5G internet, i.e. in the house the devices connect via the existing access point as before or is this a pure 5G access point and all devices connect to this 5G access point?
Since I don't have such a good 5G signal in the house, my idea is to install this device (outdoors) outside and would then also have 5G internet (i.e. backup internet) in addition to my cable internet (in the house), or is that not possible?
I don't have a traditional internet connection (ADSL, Fibre), I use this device as the only internet portal. It connects to the network switch (just like ADSL router) and everything in the house works as expected (cable connection or WiFi HotSpot access in the house).
I live in the countryside, with moderate 5G signal, but get reliable 100Mb/s download, 30mB/s upload with 30ms ping - more than enough for me.
The only drawback is that fixed IP addresses are not offered by mobile phone providers - which can only be a challenge with remote access - but with VPN there are also solutions, even if they are not elegant.
I have no experience as a backup to existing Internet access - I don't know whether the switch has to play a role here.
I will soon be moving into a farmhouse. Internet from the box is unusable. The only option is a 5G solution. I am looking for the best connection/performance as I play online with PC.
I have already checked with Swisscom in the shop. Unfortunately, they could not give me a satisfactory answer. On the Swisscom homepage, I checked the 5G coverage and it is even available with 5G+ (does that matter?) at the new home. However, Swisscom only provides the subscription with a sim card. I was also not recommended a device or told what exactly I need and where I can get it.
Was this device my solution?
Is there something better? e.g. 5G+ capable.
Reading the comments I only half understand, is it advisable to have this installed and commissioned by a company? If so, does anyone know of one?
I have been using the thing for a few days now. Unfortunately, the router hangs up at some point. Firstly, the connection slows down and secondly, there are longer interruptions and even total failure. When I restart, I get speeds of 500 Mbps down and 150 up again. But eventually it drops down to 4G until the thing hangs up again. Most of the time this happens within 12 hours. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could there theoretically be a new firmware or something? I rule out throttling by the ISP, because after every restart it has wonderful 5G speeds again.
