Correct! The WLAN signal provided by the router is only intended for configuring the router and does not provide Internet access.
In principle, you can use a router of your choice here. I personally use a firewall from Netgate.
A very good addition to the router is a mesh system, because with it you get excellent coverage. The system that may currently inspire the most would be from Xiaomi. It offers WiFi6, up to 256 devices are supported, it is inexpensive and yet very powerful (5 cores per router) and also offers a 3 port Gbit switch per router. The system can even be expanded to up to 10 devices if required.
