Can this wonder play songs from USB in order of artist and/or directory? Playback in strict USB memory order is out of the question for me.

It plays the MP3's from USB in the order in which they were saved on the stick.

Can I also connect an (old) iPod via USB? And what is the order of the titles then? Controllable via iPod?

No, the USB connection generally does not work with all Apple devices. The only thing that works is the connection via Bluetooth. Here, however, the sound is not really good with an older iPod. With the newer devices like iPhone and iPad, it sounds much better.
