Hi in my experience with such watches you should first put the SIM card in a Natel and enter the SIM code and turn off the code and then put the SIM in the watch. Hope this helps. Ours works very well and we are very happy.

You can call the watch without having an app installed and vice versa. We have never really needed the SMS function.

I operate 2 watches with one M-Budget Mobile Prepaid Easy S each and it works without any problems. GPS tracking hardly uses any data, so the Prepaid Easy S for CHF 4.00/month is not exhausted. For sporadic trips abroad, I use the Data Travel 100MB - Europe option. The Xplora X4 cannot send SMS, so the number of free SMS in the subscription is irrelevant. Receiving SMS is possible with the Xplora. I recommend adding the service number of the provider to the mandatory contact list of the parent app to the Xplora so that the watch can receive service SMS from the provider. The data consumption for GPS tracking is so low because real-time tracking is not possible. By this I mean that the location display does not change so dynamically that I would be able to tell from the speed whether the watch wearer is, for example, sitting on a train or walking next to the track. The watches regularly send location updates, but these can be a few minutes old. Sending pictures and voice messages from the watch to approved contacts is also not significant due to the low resolution of the data and is also only possible to contacts who have the Xplora app installed on their mobile phone and use the chat function of this app.

Maybe you need to deactivate the SIM PIN code. To do this you need to insert the SIM into a phone and go into the security settings (there are online guides that explain the process for each OS). For me the watch works with a M-Budget SIM

I returned the watch back as cost wise it’s does not make sense. The SIM cost per month is way to high for kids watch. If you buy Swisscom package it costs 10 Franks a month which is good & safety perspectives I trust Swisscom than any other.
