Prices in online shops can change dynamically on a daily basis. This can have different reasons. Here is an interesting article: https://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/wirtschaft/unternehmen-und-konjunktur/Mal-kostet-der-Staubsauger-159-dann-175-und-ploetzlich-168-Franken/story/27950392

The My Cloud EX2 Ultra is a NAS device that is mainly connected to a network via an Ethernet cable. It has USB ports, but these are not intended for direct connection to a PC for data transfer. Instead, the data is usually transferred via the network. If you want to transfer data from a USB device to the NAS, you can connect the device to the NAS and manage the data via the My Cloud Dashboard, but the primary connection is via Ethernet.

I would no longer buy the WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra as a NAS because Western Digital has a very peculiar update policy for the firmware. There is a lot of information about this on the Internet, e.g. here: https://www.digitec.ch/de/page/western-digital-zwingt-my-cloud-user-zum-update-28394 Furthermore, I cannot recommend WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra as a NAS because, among other things, it is also very slow.

There's a fan in it, and there are tips on the internet that they are not always quiet. My recommendation would be to invest in a real NAS, which costs a bit more, but you can do a lot more with it than with a WD NAS and there is also support and updates for years, so that would definitely be better and these fans in the Synology NAS, they are practically silent: Synology DS220+ (2 x 1 TB, Seagate Ironwolf)

I would advise against a WD NAS, they are toy NAS which are not worth much. It would therefore be better to buy a real NAS, e.g. the Synology DS218play, which is a very well-equipped NAS that can also do something (even 4K transcoding) and also offers much better security and years of updates: Synology DS218play (WD Red Plus) The DS218Play offers a Quad Core processor with 4 x 1.4 GHz with fast DDR4 RAM, while the WD device has an ancient 1.3 GHz Dual Core CPU with outdated DDR3 RAM. The brochure conveys ultra, but the only thing I can tell is that these WD devices are ultra old.

You can change the SMB from 1 to 3 and even combine them. I'm not a computer scientist, I don't even know what SMB is. But I had to change it from SMB 3 to SMB 2+3 so that I can access the NAS with my smartphone and computer via the home network. It works, I'm thrilled! Regarding your question, yes, the My Cloud can do SMB 1.

https://www.hardware-journal.de/testberichte/data/2452-test-wd-my-cloud-ex2-ultra - How could it be otherwise, WD uses its own Red series. In this case, two of the 4TB models (WD40EFRX). These hard drives come with 64MB cache and are operated with a maximum rotational speed of 5400 rpm. The manufacturer specifies an operating volume of 28dB(A) (operation) and 25dB(A) (idle). Exact volume measurements / assessments were also recorded and documented by us. The results can be found in the volume measurement.

Hello Markavelia Have had the WD My Cloud connected to the Mac for about 5 years. Even with the current operating system. IPhones sync automatically via the WD app. Everything works fine. I haven't connected an external, additional hard drive as the current capacity is more than sufficient. Many greetings

you can configure to backup from a mac to this device using the time machine. Although you cannot back up from this device to another time machine backup device. you can create cloud access, but i have not tried it. from the help text "Before a smart phone or tablet can access the content of your device, you need to register it as part of your personal cloud ecosystem. You generate a code that will pair your mobile device with the My Cloud device"

The NAS is network-compatible and is connected directly to the router with a network cable. The device is then accessible in the entire home network, no matter where it is located. The data can be moved back and forth from all computers in the same network. Most new TVs and players are network-compatible and can therefore access films stored on the NAS directly. As far as the TV streaming box via USB is concerned, it depends more on the TV box, what it can do, than on the NAS. This is certainly possible on the NAS. It is easier if the box accesses the NAS via the network. Then it doesn't matter where the NAS is located.

Press the top of the lid on the front side. Fold the cover upwards. Loosen the wing nut from the retainer and remove the retainer. Pull out the plate at the rear by the tab on the defective plate in question. Read the type on the plate and reorder it from Digitec.

Hello St.rudin - as far as I know, you can access the cloud all over the world (via website). It worked for me in the USA. You could also set up FTP access for the EX2, from which you could also access it worldwide. I hope that I was able to help. Greetings Lars
