You can see the alarm time on the display. There are two programmable alarms that you can set only for weekdays, for example. You can also set the station and volume. Both my statement and the one in the instructions are correct ;-) In operation: High - Medium - Low. In STANDBY (!): High - Medium - Low - Off. Only in standby is this function 'off' available! After switching off, the display goes out after a few seconds (not immediately!).
It depends on what they mean by external speaker. It has a 3.5 jack, you can attach speakers there. Hifi speakers that need an amplifier and the cables are attached with screw terminals cannot be connected.
