Well, I think the ANC of the XM4 is awesome. Since the XM3 was already very strong, I can't really say whether it is substantially better. At the moment, I don't have the test locations (aeroplane, for example).

I've got this helmet and never had any problems.
I don't know the Apple product you use, so I can't compare. The Sony headphones work for me, the sound quality and noise reduction are excellent. For these two points the headphones squeeze the head a bit to surround the ears, but that's the way it has to be for it to work well. The best thing would be to try it out.
