Yes, it can make a difference, but it's going to make your camera considerably heavier, plus there'll be a big loss of brightness, so it's not worth the risk.
Without a teleconverter, the AF must work correctly. With a 2x teleconverter, however, it becomes a dark zoom with f13 at the long end and a cheap DSLR cannot cope with that. They usually stop working at f8. This is nothing new, it has been known for a long time. It should be in the technical data. Newer mirrorless cameras have no problem with this.
It fits only for some Sigma Global Vision lenses: https://www.sigma-foto.de/fileadmin/relaunch/products/Telekonverter/Kompatibilita%CC%88tstabelle_04_2021.pdf
Good day I need the converter on my Sony a7R ii and Sony a7iii via the MC11 adapter from Sigma and it works fine.
Hello Michael The new TC-1401 and TC-2001 converters are not compatible with this lens, but the older teleconverters of the EX DG series would fit and are still available. I would advise you to use at most a 1.4x converter for this lens, with the 2.0x you will hardly achieve satisfactory results.
Hello Stefan if it is the Sigma 18-200mm F3,5-6,3 DC Makro OS HSM | Contemporary, the converters do not fit according to Sigma. See Sigma technical data: https://www.sigma-foto.de/objektive/18-200mm-f35-63-dc-makro-os-hsm-contemporary/technische-daten/ Greetings Patrick
