Yes, the AV receiver wakes up from standby when it is controlled via an Apple AirPlay player (e.g. iPhone) via WLAN, provided the "Network Standby" function is activated in the setup menu. This function is switched on by default and enables the network function to be active even in standby mode and the device can be switched on via the network (e.g. AirPlay).

The AV receiver supports HDMI 2.1 with 8K60 and 4K120 Hz pass-through. This means that it can pass on an 8K picture signal at 60 Hz and a 4K picture signal at 120 Hz without any problems. However, an 8K signal at 120 Hz is not explicitly mentioned and is currently technically very rare. For your gaming computer signal 8K at 120 Hz, the pass-through could therefore become a bottleneck, as the receiver officially only supports 8K up to 60 Hz, but 4K up to 120 Hz. Pass-through is definitely guaranteed for 8K at 60 Hz.

The USB port on the back of the device is suitable for playing music files from a USB storage device. You can play music files stored on a USB stick directly via the USB port, not just use it for charging.

No, each sound input (e.g. HDMI ports) does not have its own speaker calibration on the Onkyo TX-NR7100 AV receiver. Speaker calibration, such as that performed with Dirac Live, is generally configured globally for the surround sound system and not specifically for each individual input. Speaker calibration is typically performed once for the system as a whole, taking into account speaker distances, crossovers, and volume levels, but this is not related to each HDMI or other type of sound input individually.

Mine behaved similarly strangely once. I assume you have completely disconnected it from the mains (including the power cable for a minute or two)? That helped me at the time and it hasn't happened again since. If it doesn't help, I don't know of any other solution.

It's hard to say. Mine is connected to the mobile phone via WLAN. It has already happened twice that the receiver has logged off from the WLAN. However, the password was always saved and you only had to reactivate the Wi-Fi function to connect it and control it again with the app. In one case we had a short power cut in the house because of an electrical installation. In the second case, I don't know for sure. Otherwise, the app runs quite stable and this despite the fact that the device is placed in a relatively unfavourable position in a lowboard (with the aluminium-glass flap closed at the front). The two antennas are therefore positioned horizontally at the back of the device as supplied. Perhaps delete the app and reinstall it if the problem is on this side or switch to WLAN as the connection method if one is available.

I have to add something to my previous answer... It is not the case that you cannot set up any other devices via the app. You can access peripheral control devices connected via HDMI (e.g. TV, BD/DVD player) via the app, but the analogue line out is not part of the app as such. And of course you can select all digital and analogue inputs. The analogue Line Out of Zone 2 can only be accessed in the settings of the receiver, either directly on the receiver itself or via the supplied remote control, but not via the App on the smartphone. The app is not translated consistently into German. The (?) info icons next to an English term suddenly hide German explanations.
