Hello, additional operating software is required for the foot pedal to work, we don't have it in operation either.
I'm very sorry, it works perfectly for me, I don't know why it doesn't work for you.
Seems the picture is wrong. The Olympus homepage does show a USB connector:

The secretary uses it to type dictacted letters. Never used for gaming. ?Buttons' can be held down (fast forwar, rewind, listen etc.)

yes works perfectly with Winscribe
The foot control is only compatible with the following Olympus software:
DSS Player for MAC version 7 (or higher).
Olympus Sonority version 1.0.1 (or higher)
ODMS Version 6 (or higher)
DSS Player Pro Version R5.0.0 (or higher)
This will hardly work for Windows Media Player.
